By Emily StavridisReuters.comAn estimated $30,000 a year for carpet cleaning is not uncommon for families in suburban America, where the typical household spends about $400 a year.
“We spend a lot of money on carpet cleaning,” said Diane Jones, who owns a small carpet cleaning business in Los Angeles.
“I think it is a lot.
I would say around $30 a year.”
Some of that cleaning is done by people who have a lot on their plates, and others by contractors, who charge more than $50 per hour.
That is because carpet cleaning companies must get permits to work in residential neighborhoods, and they must get a permit for each property they clean.
The industry has grown in recent years, with some companies charging as much as $1,000 for a single-use cleaning.
There are now more than 50 carpet cleaning firms in the U.S., with more than a dozen nationwide, according to the Association of Professional Cleaners, a trade group.
Some of the biggest players in the industry include CleaningHouse.com, which was founded by two former members of the family of Robert J. DeMille, who created the famous “Million Dollar Listing” and was an early investor in the dot-com boom of the 1980s.
It is now the largest carpet cleaning company in the United States with about 3,000 employees.
In 2017, it spent $5.5 billion in its U.K. operations, according the company.
It employs about 50 people.
The company says it is focused on helping homeowners clean up after themselves, while cleaning the home and helping people keep the home in good condition.
The American Association of Carpet Cleaners (ACCC) estimates that the industry’s annual costs are about $2 billion.
It said there is little research to suggest carpet cleaning will help homeowners save money, though there are some studies that suggest it can save money for the average homeowner.
The ACCC said the biggest barriers to carpet cleaning are: poor-quality carpets and carpets that don’t meet a code or condition that should have been required.
ACCC President Susan Schulte said the industry must address those barriers.
“The fact that there are so many regulations, there is no accountability,” Schulta said.
“We need to ensure that carpets are in a good condition, and there are a lot more regulations than there are carpets.”
The ACCc also said carpet cleaning could also be more expensive for older homeowners who may need to pay for cleaning services and insurance.
“Some homeowners may need the extra expense to cover the costs of their cleaning services,” Schults said.
“You are just talking about more than two and a half times the cost of what you would get for carpeting,” Jones said.
But for many homeowners, carpet cleaning costs can add up.
“It really depends on the carpeting, whether it is an old carpet, a new carpet, whether they have carpet that has been put in,” said Mary Cavanagh, a home health care specialist in Los Altos, California.
Cavanagh said the cost to her business is usually less than $30.
She said she does not use carpet cleaners for carpets as often as she used to.
Cavagnay said carpet cleaners need to know the difference between carpeting that has a clean and a dirty surface.
“If they don’t understand that they need to have a clean surface, they will not be able to make the proper decisions,” Cavagnay told Reuters.
Cavalagnay also said that carpet cleaners must follow rules and regulations that are designed to keep them safe.
Cabins and other structures that require carpeting are required to be tested annually for contaminants and pollutants.
There is a requirement to maintain the carpet area, but carpet cleaners can work in areas with water and other chemicals in the air.
Carnage is also a concern for older homes and older people.
“They can get sick, they can get infections,” Jones told Reuters by phone.
“People who are older can get really sick, or people with a lot arthritis can get very, very sick,” she added.
“When you have a carpet that is not in good shape, then it becomes a safety issue, it becomes an issue for the house.”
